Students may NOT, under any circumstances, print or take screen shots of any College course homework assignments, quizzes, exams, finals, or links to PowerPoint or Youtube videos and share them with non- Laboure students, medical or healthcare facility staff, co-workers, other educational programs and/or anyone not enrolled in the program.  Doing so is illegal and could result in dismissal from the College as well as further legal action.

 

 

Live Class in Week 7

There is a link on the main page of week 7 for a live class on Wednesday in week 7.  It starts at 1:00 pm Eastern time and will last an hour and a half.  If you work that day, make arrangements to be off or to bring a lap top in and clock out to attend the class and then clock back in.  If you are in clinicals that day, just let your supervisor know that you will need to be on your laptop during this time to attend a class.  They understand that you are in school.  Attendance is mandatory and you will get a zero if you don't attend.  The class is on the final EEG output.  Make sure that you have read that handout and watched that powerpoint video before the class.

 

Examity
 
 
 
I mentioned in orientation, that we use something called Examity in our program to proctor some of our exams.  In my 1010 course, I will be using it for four quizzes (Electrical Concepts, Freq/Dur/Volt/Final EEG Output and Abnormal EEG) and the final exam.  Students need to register with Examity first before they can start using it.
  There is a link above with some instructions on how to register.  It is 8 pages long however, it is mostly pictures and the first page is just a cover sheet.  First, you need to go to   prod.examity.com/Laboure   then, the attached instructions tell you step by step how to set up your profile and set a password.  
  I have already entered you into the system so, is should move smoothly for you.  Jackie Polito may have already sent you an email about this, you only need to set up your profile one time so if you have already done it for her class, you are good to go for mine.
 
 
You MUST contact Examity to schedule a day and a time to take the quizzes and the final.  If a quiz opens on a Thurs at 8:00 pm Eastern time, that would be the earliest you could schedule your start time for this quiz.  Quizzes close on Saturdays at 8:00 pm Eastern time and you have 15 -30 minutes to take them.  Examity can run late sometimes therefore, the latest you could schedule your start time for the final with them is Sat at about 6:00 pm Eastern time.  That will give you plenty of time to take the quiz and extra time in case Examity is late getting you started.
 
 
What Happens During The Exams with Examity
 
You will need to have your driver's license out and ready to show Examity once you log on or they won't let you take the quiz or final.  Some students find Examity stressful, the proctor may have a thick accent and be hard to understand, they can start late which makes some students nervous and they watch and record you take the exam.  Some students get nervous having someone watch them but, it would be no different than having the teacher at the front of the classroom in a seated program.  The proctor will check out your environment via your camera, you will have to pick up your computer and move it around to show them you are ALONE in the room, you do NOT have any notes out, nor can you have any other devices such as a phone or tablet.  Do not take quizzes or the final while you are babysitting.  You must be alone and cannot talk to anyone during the exam.  The proctor will also check your computer's speed.  If your current browser is not Chrome, they will make you log off and then back on again thru Chrome.  These type of things are what can cause the exam to run late.  The more prepared you are (log on with Chrome, have your license ready, make sure there is nothing on your desk...) the smoother the process will go.   
 

 

Don't schedule any exam with Examity after the stated closing time in your syllabus.  The proctors at Examity don't have your syllabus, they don't know that my quizzes usually close on Saturday nights at 8:00 pm Eastern time.  If you ask if you can take your quiz on Sunday, they will probably say yes and schedule it not knowing that your exam is not open at that time so, pay attention to your teacher's start and stop times.  

 

If you do not schedule your four 1010 quizzes and the final exam with Examity, you will get an automatic zero for each of them. cry Please go ahead and register right away and get it over with.  Anyone who waits until the last day or two before these exams to schedule will get charged a fee from Examity.  The sooner you call and schedule both exams the better selection they will have for times that you can take them.

 

After you have clicked on the link above and registered in Examity, it is time to schedule all of your Examity quizzes.  Log into the Examity website, click on the name of the class that you want to schedule in, click on the name of the quiz or exam you want to schedule and a calendar comes up with the available times you can choose from.  Make sure you pick a day and time that fall within the timeframe that quiz is available.  Meaning, in all of my classes, the quizzes open up Thursday nights at 8:00pm and close on Saturday nights at 8:00 pm so, you won't be able to take it on a Wednesday or a Sunday.

Due dates in the Syllabus are the most correct - those in eLearning may not always be correct.

Check the Syllabus a few times each week so that you don't miss an assignment.

Some assignments may not always be visible in eLearning. Every assignment is always visible in the Syllabus.

Work ahead of the schedule.

Take a quiz or submit an assignment when it opens, instead of just before it closes.

 

 

EEG/Writing Tutoring

If you would like EEG tutoring or advice from a 3rd semester EEG student who has gone thru what you are going thru, contact contact Cris Romero at crisbenric_romero@students.laboure.edu  We provide tutoring for our students FREE of charge!  There is a term paper in this course, it will be graded on spelling, punctuation and grammar.  

 

You need to be writing a few paragraphs each week of the course therefore, you need to contact the tutor NOW!  Do not wait until the week or two before the paper is due to contact her, it will be too late by then!  

 

 

Tips for Quizzes:

 

I want to give you a few words of advice for taking quizzes in my courses:

 

1)  I do not use your textbook for any of my quiz or exam items.  Other Laboure' instructors do use their textbook, I am just not one of them.

 

2)  All quiz and exam questions come straight from my handouts and power point videos.  I go into more detail on subject matter than a neuro tech needs to know and I do it in layman's terms.  As opposed to the textbook which can be vague about some important topics and too deep on others.

 

3)  Though it is awesome that you seek outside sources to learn all you can about the NDT field, those other sources were not used to write your quizzes.  There may be 10 different views on something, as an Assistant Professor of Neurodiagnostic Technology, it is my job to find the most common view and the view that is most likely to be on the ABRET board exams.  I did use MANY sources to put my handouts together.

 

* For example:  For more than 30 years, the minimum impedance level in the field was less than 5Kohms.  Keep in mind, that is a "minimum" standard.  No one should ever do the minimum.  Some new standards have come out that less than 10Kohms is now the new minimum.  At Laboure' we expect high standards and so do some hospitals.  In my handouts and power points, I state that you must get your impedance to 5Kohms or less regardless of the new standard.  So, my handout is what you use for an exam in my class.  Also, you will notice in your clinical paperwork that the Daily Checklist requires you to get an impedance of 5Kohms or less. Therefore Laboure' will not be lowering their standards regardless of what your clinical site's standards might be.

Exam Instructions

 

The quizzes and tests are set to block certain activities. You need to be sure you do the following, or you’ll lose your chance to take the test. It will boot you out. It won’t be re-opened for you.

You’ve studied too hard for this, so be sure you follow the specs below. Check each one off as you prepare to log on to take your quiz or test:

- Be sure you completely reboot your computer before you log on to take a quiz. Updates lurking behind the scenes are considered a threat by the Learning Management System.

 

- Be sure you have no other browser windows open while taking an exam, such as google, FB, your email, anything and everything.

 

- Do not use your back button or refresh button.

 

- Be sure you have strong internet connectivity. How many bars do you see?

 

- Do not use a hospital computer or hospital wi-fi.

 

- Do not use Internet Explorer. Anything else is better, such as Firefox, Google Chrome, Mozilla, etc.

 

- Take the quiz in plenty of time to finish before the deadline. Quizzes are usually 30 minutes or less. Check with your instructor beforehand if in doubt. If you log on with less time than the quiz takes to complete before it closes, you won’t be able to finish.

Dropping a Course:

As stated in your student handbook:

In order to drop a course, you have more to do than to stop attending class or to inform your professor.  In accordance with Labouré College policy, you have to drop a course, in person or in writing to the admissions office or One Stop, during the published adjustment period.  If you are thinking of dropping this course, please discuss with your instructor, the Program Chair and your academic advisor.  Please see the Academic Calendar in the College Catalog for the dates of the adjustment period so that you will know the last day to drop a class.  If all you did was inform your instructor and then just stop coming to class, the computer will assign you zeros for all of your missing work and you will get an F on your final transcript.  If you officially withdraw with the admissions office, you will get a "withdraw" on your final transcript.

 

The last day to officially withdraw this semester is Friday June 5, 2020.
