CPT Coding (HIT 2300)

Description

This course reinforces the classification of disease and procedures according to International Classification of Diseases and introduces Current Procedural Terminology for the coding of outpatient procedures and materials as well as professional coding. All principles for accurate coding of medical records according to these classification systems are studied and practiced. Technologies to assist in coding, such as encoders and groupers, are incorporated to the manual coding process. Healthcare reimbursement history and current practices are reviewed, with emphasis on outpatient reimbursement issues. Coding Compliance policies and practices for outpatient coding are studied.
