Description
This primer in public health practice will provide students with an overview of the history, concepts, methods and contemporary issues in the field of public health. We will explore the evolution of public health as a discipline and profession, using an approach of why, where, how and what as it relates to public health practice. Using government documents and contemporary literature, students will gain an appreciation of the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for public health practitioners and agencies. We will explore the relationship between individual behavior and public health, as well as explore why the work of public health professionals is often ignored - until there is a health-related crisis.
